For data owners
Your historical data may be more valuable than you think.
Years of tests, measurements and production records could have a second life. We help laboratories and industrial companies determine whether their data matches active AI development needs — and, if it does, license it responsibly.
No raw data required · Confidential · No obligation
A second life for operational data
You created the data. Now it may help train the next generation of AI.
Most organizations never thought of their LIMS exports, QC logs or historian archives as an asset. They were kept for compliance, traceability or process control.
Yet those records often contain exactly what AI developers cannot find elsewhere: real measurements, the decisions qualified people made about them, and what actually happened next.

What qualifies
Signs your data may qualify
Your historical data may have licensing value if several of these are true. None of them alone guarantees interest — buyer demand decides.
- 01
Results are recorded
Pass/fail, final values, failure modes or accepted/rejected batches are stored with the record.
- 02
People made decisions
Technicians, engineers or inspectors interpreted the data and their judgment was captured.
- 03
Failures were kept
Defects, out-of-spec results and corrective actions were documented, not discarded.
- 04
It goes back years
Long histories capture rare events, drift and edge cases.
- 05
Records link together
Inputs, process conditions and outcomes can be joined by batch, sample or asset.
- 06
It isn't public
The data was generated internally and similar data is not openly available.
The process
Seven steps. Each with an exit.
You can stop at any point. Most of the early work happens without any of your data leaving your systems.
- STEP 01
Describe your data
Share high-level information about what you hold. No raw data is required at this stage.
- Organization type, industry and country
- Years of history and approximate number of records
- Data types and the systems that hold them
- Whether results or outcomes are recorded
- Ownership status
- Whether personal or customer information is present
- STEP 02
Dataset assessment
We evaluate whether the data matches what AI developers are actively looking for.
- Uniqueness
- Scale
- Structure
- Potential AI applications
- Potential rights issues
- Buyer relevance
- STEP 03
Rights & privacy review
Owning data and having the right to license it are not the same thing. We work through the difference with you and appropriate specialists.
- Ownership
- Customer confidentiality
- Contractual restrictions
- Personal information
- Trade-secret considerations
- Cross-border restrictions where applicable
- STEP 04
Dataset preparation
Where a dataset qualifies, we help turn operational records into a documented, licensable asset.
- De-identification
- Normalization and formatting
- Metadata creation
- Documentation and dataset cards
- Provenance documentation
- STEP 05
Buyer matching
We match qualifying datasets with organizations that have a relevant need.
- AI labs
- AI developers
- Industrial AI companies
- Research organizations
- STEP 06
Licensing
Commercial terms are negotiated per transaction. Depending on the dataset and the buyer, structures may include:
- One-time licenses
- Non-exclusive licenses
- Exclusive licenses
- Limited-duration rights
- Field-of-use licenses
Not every structure is available for every dataset or buyer.
- STEP 07
Revenue
If a transaction is completed, you receive the compensation agreed in the license.
No sale is guaranteed. Whether a dataset licenses depends on buyer demand, rights and quality.
What we do
End to end, so you don't have to.
- Dataset discovery
- Initial valuation
- Rights assessment
- Data inventory
- Provenance documentation
- Anonymization / de-identification planning
- Exclusion of restricted information
- Dataset structuring
- Data quality review
- Buyer matching
- Licensing
- Commercial negotiation
- Transaction coordination
What you keep
Control, throughout.
- You decide what is shared
- Nothing is disclosed to a prospective buyer without your approval.
- Trade secrets stay protected
- Proprietary formulations, customer names and sensitive process details can be excluded or abstracted.
- Customers stay protected
- Customer-confidential information is identified and excluded or de-identified before any licensing discussion.
- Operations aren't disrupted
- Assessment starts with a questionnaire; later work is scoped with you in advance.
Confidentiality first
Data licensing without losing control.
Your data stays yours until you decide otherwise. We assess before anything is shared, and we treat rights and privacy as conditions of a transaction — not afterthoughts.
No raw data for an initial evaluation
The first assessment uses descriptions, schemas and counts — not your records.
Nothing moves without authorization
Data is not transferred to buyers without your explicit authorization and an agreed license.
Ownership is not the same as licensing rights
Customer contracts, consents and confidentiality terms can limit what may be licensed, even for data you hold.
Specialist review where it is needed
We work with data owners and appropriate legal and compliance specialists to determine what can be licensed.
Datasets may require
- Contractual review
- Customer-consent review
- Anonymization
- De-identification
- Removal of restricted information
- Export-control review
- Cross-border data review
Removing names alone does not guarantee anonymization. Combinations of dates, locations, product codes or rare events can re-identify people or customers, so de-identification is planned dataset by dataset.
DataNexx does not provide legal advice. Data licensing transactions may require independent legal, privacy, regulatory, or export-control review.

FAQ
Questions data owners ask.
Do we need to send any data for the first assessment?
No. The initial assessment uses high-level descriptions: what kind of data you hold, how much, over what period, and in which systems. Samples are only discussed later, under confidentiality terms, if there is a reason to look further.
How much could our data be worth?
We cannot say before an assessment, and we will not quote a number we cannot support. Value depends on buyer demand, uniqueness, quality, scale, licensing rights and intended use. Some datasets have strong licensing potential; many do not.
We own our data. Does that mean we can license it?
Not necessarily. Customer contracts, confidentiality obligations, consents and regulations can restrict how data you hold may be used. Part of our process is identifying those restrictions with you and appropriate specialists.
What about our customers' confidential information?
Customer-identifying and confidential information is typically excluded or de-identified, and some datasets cannot be licensed at all because of customer terms. We plan this dataset by dataset rather than assuming a single approach works.
Will this disrupt our operations?
The assessment requires a short questionnaire and, if promising, a conversation with the people who know the data. Preparation work is scoped with you in advance.
Is a sale guaranteed?
No. We match qualifying datasets with buyers who have a relevant need, but no transaction is guaranteed. You are compensated only if a license is agreed and completed.
